3.6.1 Fly end. Unless otherwise indicated on the applicable specification sheet, the fly
end of the streamer shall be formed as shown in TIOH Drawing 5-5-2 (Figure 1) by using a
Type 304 stitch of FED-STD-751 with 58 stitches per inch ± 4 stitches per inch. The ribbon
shall be closely trimmed along the stitch to form the swallow-tail of the fly end.
3.6.2 Heading.
3.6.2.1 Type I and Type II, Sizes 1 and 2. Unless otherwise indicated on the applicable
specification sheet, Type I and Type II, Size 1 and 2 headings shall be constructed as
shown on the applicable drawing and as specified herein. A one-inch hem shall be made
using seam type EFaa-2 stitch type 301 of FED-STD-751 with a minimum of 12 stitches per
inch. A grommet as specified in 3.4.2 shall be positioned on the heading as shown on
TIOH Drawing 5-5-2 (Figure 1).
3.6.2.2 Type II, Size 3. Unless otherwise indicated on the applicable specification sheet,
Type II, Size 3 heading shall be lined with a 1-1/4 inch wide cotton tape, 4-1/2 inches long
and stitched on each side with seam Type EFa-1, stitch Type 301 of FED-STD-751, 12
stitches per inch. A 1/2 inch eyelet will be centered on the heading as shown on TIOH
Drawing 5-5-2 (Figure 1). The eyelet shall be stitched through both layers of fabric with a
regular button hole stitch. The heading shall then be formed by hemming the end of the
streamer with a 3/8 inch turn under and stitched with seam Type EFb-2 stitch Type 301 of
FED-STD-751. Stitching gauge shall be 1/16 inch with a 1/8 inch margin. The flat width of
the finish hem shall be not less than 2-1/4 inches and turned to the reverse side of the
finished streamer.
3.6.3 Embroidery. Unless otherwise indicated on the applicable specification sheet,
lettering , devices, and numbers shall be positioned on the streamer as shown on TIOH
Drawing 5-5-2 (Figure 1). Embroidery yarn shall conform to the requirements indicated in
3.4.3. Devices shall conform to the cartoon; however, letter size and dimensions shall be
as shown on TIOH Drawing 5-5-614 (Figure 3). Tolerances for embroidered letters,
numerals, and devices shall be + 1/16 inch in height and width.
3.7 Workmanship. Streamers shall be clean, well-made and shall meet acceptable
quality standards established by this specification. Thread tension shall be maintained
throughout and all threads ends or cross over stitches shall be trimmed.
4. VERIFICATION
4.1 Classification of inspections. The inspection requirements specified herein are
classified as follows:
a. First article inspection (see 4.3).
b. Conformance inspection (see 4.4).
4.2 Inspection conditions. Unless otherwise specified, all inspection shall be performed
in accordance with the test conditions specified in 4.4.
4.3 First article inspection. Inspection and testing of the first article (see 3.2 and 6.3)
shall be made of a completely finished item for all provisions of this specification applicable
to the end product examination and tests.
